Walt Disney World – Hollywood Studios

If you were to ask me what my least favourite park was when I first started to visit Disney World. I sadly, probably would have said Hollywood Studios (MGM Studios, before the name change). But now, with having one of my all time favourite rides there, aswell as Toy story Land and Galaxy’s Edge. This again, is making it so hard to have a strong favourite. Disney have made each park at Disney World as good as each other.

Before I move onto anything. I must say now that we missed out by a DAY, I repeat, a DAY of the first phase of Galaxy’s Edge opening. I mean, if we were there for opening day, I doubt it would have been much fun as everyone would have been there. But still, one day. So we are yet to visit Galaxy’s Edge, but we are eagerly awaiting that day, because it looks ridiculous! And obviously, Rich is a huge Star Wars fan, that I think it’s going to be hard to get him to leave this park, haha!

Again with a similar layout to Magic Kingdom, Main Street is Hollywood Boulevard. Including a Chinese Theatre that now features Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway that opened after our visit also.

Areas of the park are as follows, Echo Lake, Grand Avenue, Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge, Toy Story Land, Animation Courtyard and Sunset Boulevard. Hollywood Studios, covers a lot of characters and films from The Muppets, Indiana Jones, Toy Story, Star Wars and Pixar in general. There is always something new going on here a lot lately, it just keeps getting better.

It goes without saying, that Hollywood Studios gets me so excited to ride Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror. Both can be found in Sunset Boulevard. Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster features one of my favourite bands Aerosmith, and hits 0 to 60 in less than three seconds, but it is such a smooth ride, even after all the years this ride has been going for. It feels like a new one. You could shut your eyes and not realise you’re doing some loop-de-loops. Tower of Terror we fast-passed – I would say if you can, not too. The queue for this ride is all part of the ride, it’s so spooky and haunting by getting a fast pass you can really miss out of the unique experience the queue gives you.

Something I find unbelievable is the Indiana Jones show. I saw that for the first time back in 2004, and then seeing it again in 2019. It is the exact same show. I have seen this show time and time again, and it just keeps getting better. But I find it so crazy that the cast members have been doing the same stunt shows for so long!

This was out first time in Toy Story Land, and a land we looked forward to seeing most. The Toy Story films came out when we were all born, so we have quite literally grown up with them. So, a land dedicated to it, was an exciting experience. From the giant toys, long grass, and that feeling of being like your have been shrunk down to toy size to some amazing rides. It is just so perfect for this film. When we were on our honeymoon we went on Midway Mania, and we had an absolute ball. It is a ride that will make you laugh so much from start to finish. So, when we saw they had it in Hollywood Studios, we forced my Mum, Dad and Brother on it straight away. And they all absolutely loved it! Slinky Dog Dash too, is a great coasted, a simple coaster with lots of big drops – my Mum screamed the entire way around. We went on this before the park closed, so we got amazing views of Toy Story Land and the rest of the park lite up at night.

We met some really unique characters here. Ones that I never even thought about meeting. Firstly Buzz Lightyear was the first meet we had in Toy Story Land, Dexter would freak out with excitement if he met Buzz now! We also met Edna Mode from The Incredibles in the Animation Courtyard, she was so sassy and cool. Then for Rich, we met Chewy and Kylo Ren. Wow, so Chewy was so cuddly and is a great hugger. Kylo Ren on the other hand was pretty terrifying, to the point where a lady infront of us with two young kids kept hiding behind us, and asked Rich to escort her past him. I say terrifying, he was just so intimidating and tall! I loved it thought, I just get the giggles when characters put me in an awquard situation (he was asking me Star Wars things, so I just kept looking at Rich, like ‘help me!’) haha! Definitely meet him, it’s actually Kylo Ren!

To end our night here, we watched the Wonderful World of Animation projection show at the Chinese Theatre which was a super cute watch. Then next up was the Star Wars A Galactic Spectacular. Rich and I are the Star Wars Fans, not my Mum, Dad and Brother. However, after watching this, they all thought they would give Star Wars a watch because of how good the show was (although, my Dad probably wouldn’t want to admit, haha!). The Star Wars show was a light show with a few fireworks. It’s a 14 minute, and shows clips from the movie, with the original score. Which probably doesn’t sound that enticing, but it was great, one of the best shows I had seen at Disney.

Once we visit Galaxy’s Edge, I do believe this will be a park that we visit more in a single holiday. With all of the new rides, and updates they are doing, along with new Lands. I think Hollywood Studios could become top of the ranks for a lot of people. It has a bit for everyone. Whether you want to feel like you have walked into a new world, or throw yourself back to old school Hollywood and have a chat with the lovely Betty Shambles.
